Hypnosis
Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Very simply it is a state of focused concentration. It comes from the Greek hypno which means to sleep. However, this is a misnomer. Use of hypnosis produces a wonderful state of deep physical relaxation and increased mental awareness. The increased mental awareness enables YOU to maximize and harness the POWER OF YOUR MIND to make the changes you desire. You always have the choice to respond to the suggestions or ignore them. The key to successful use of hypnosis is your willingness to change.

CAN HYPNOSIS BE USED TO IMPROVE SKILLS OR BREAK HABITS?

Absolutely! Hypnosis is one of the best tools to effect behavioral and attitudinal changes in an individual. Smoking cessation, weight-management, nail-biting, and pain control are some of the more familiar uses. Other familiar and effective uses are for child birthing, memory recall, sales, scholastic or sports improvement, insomnia, and self-confidence. Hypnosis also helps you to overcome fears, alleviate depression, stop stuttering, reduce stress, and probe and release the past. (Conditions diagnosed as medical conditions are treated with a physician's referral)

Other areas that can be addressed include: psychic skill development, regression (current and past life), UFO abduction, interdimensional access, spiritual crisis, and other inner level experiences.

Adults or children can use hypnosis safely and easily.

COMMON MYTHS & MISCONCEPTIONS

HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM REALLY HYPNOTIZED? I DIDN'T "FEEL" HYPNOTIZED.

How do you know you are not? The statement of not feeling hypnotized is usually based on preconceived ideas of what the experience will be like. These preconceptions are usually based on something read, seen in a movie or observed watching others being hypnotized. From this the conclusion has been reached as to what hypnosis should be like. When the experience does not match the expectation then the individual determines they were not hypnotized.

THERE IS NO HYPNOTIZED "FEELING". It is an individual experience. Many of the common guide posts are a pleasant relaxed bodily sensation, reduced heart rate, slower breathing, opening the eyes when directed even if you seem to be sleeping or in altered sense of time.

AGAIN, HYPNOSIS A NORMAL, NATURAL STATE OF MIND and one that the body appreciates and enjoys. It reduces the wear and tear on the body thus the body stays healthy and balanced longer.

WHY DOES IT APPEAR THAT SOME PEOPLE GO INTO HYPNOSIS VERY QUICKLY, WHILE OTHERS CAN'T BE HYPNOTIZED AT ALL?

People who are educated and open-minded about hypnosis enter the state quickly. Hypnosis is a consent state. In other words, an individual must give his/her permission in order to achieve the state. Individuals who hold on to archaic fears and misconceptions generated by the movies, television and untrue stories may refuse to allow themselves to enter the state.

CAN I BE MADE TO DO SOMETHING AGAINST MY WILL OR THAT I DON'T WANT TO DO?

Absolutely not! Nobody can "make you" do anything you don't want to do…not in hypnosis or out of it. This is a Hollywood-created myth.

Hypnosis is a "consent" state. You only respond to suggestions in harmony with your moral or ethical structure. You are mentally alert and aware. The misconception that a hypnotized person must carry out all suggestions is simply UNTRUE! You choose your response. You are in the driver's seat at all times and will only carry out commands that are acceptable to you. You and your hypnotist are working together to help you achieve the results you want.

WILL I DO SOMETHING I WOULDN'T NORMALLY DO?

Again, this is basically the same answer as above. No one can make you do something you don't want to do, however, people create a lot of limitations and fears that end up causing distress and difficulties for the Self. In this sense, hypnosis can assist you to being a more healthy, free and balanced individual.

A FRIEND OF MINE WAS A GUEST IN A HYPNOSIS STAGE SHOW AND THEY DID THINGS THEY "SWORE" THEY WOULD NEVER DO . WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?

In a stage show setting people put aside their "normal, practiced" behaviors/limitations and allow themselves to have fun because they know before they start that they are safe and respected. By volunteering they have "consented" to enter into the "spirit" of the fun and follow the suggestions. They come to the stage with open minds and a willingness to go into hypnosis. They have agreed to relax, enjoy, follow the suggestions and use their imaginations. Those that allow themselves this opportunity are usually the stars of the show.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I "DON'T WAKE UP?" FROM HYPNOSIS

This is one of the most common questions because of the prevalent idea that you are unconscious, unaware or asleep while in the hypnotic state. Since you are not asleep you cannot wake-up. You are physically relaxed but mentally more alert than ever before because your attention is "focused". If you want to EMERGE from the hypnotic state, all you need to do it to tell yourself to "emerge".

WHAT IF I GET OUT "IN THE UNIVERSE" SOMEWHERE AND DON'T COME BACK?

Again, similar to the above, this can't happen. As long as you have a body to "come back to" you will simply either slip into a refreshing deep sleep and awaken when your body has had enough sleep or you will open your eyes feeling relaxed and at ease, able to resume your daily life in a much more balanced fashion.

WILL I REVEAL SOMETHING I DON'T WANT TO?

Again, unlike Hollywood versions, hypnosis is not a "magic truth serum." There is no need for any concern about "secrets" or "skeletons in the closet" to flow unprompted from your lips. It is always your choice as to what you do or do not relate.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE CAN BE HYPNOTIZED?

Anyone who has an I.Q. above 70, holds no fears or misconceptions and WANTS to enter into hypnosis can do so, easily and effortlessly. Those with IQ less than 70 usually are unable to concentrate long enough to enter the state.

I AM STRONG-WILLED. CAN I BE HYPNOTIZED?

Yes! As mentioned previously, anyone wanting to be hypnotized can enter into hypnosis. It is a myth that only weak-willed people can be hypnotized. Strong-willed individuals or those who like to feel in control often utilize hypnosis most effectively.
