The Waters of Life from the Heart of ALL THAT IS is now moved by Breath of Life. Clubs, symbolize the element AIR, the mind of man. Air, the link between heaven and earth, the "mind of ALL THAT IS" and the "mind of man". This is youth or adolescence, a time of experimentation of trial and error, a time of mental expansion, of stretching one's wings. Clubs are the guardians of communication, mental processes, education, messages. As VOCATION, they rule all forms of education, legal matters, literature and journalism. MERCURY and MARS are the planetary energies ruling the trefoil suit.

After Life (Water) and Breath (Air), ALL THAT IS commanded Abundance to come forth on the Earth, the element corresponding to Diamonds. Now the youth moves into Adulthood to consistently produce, to reap the harvest of the sowing done previously. Diamonds represent the power and protection of material wealth on the physical plane and the inner values upon which we stand. As VOCATION, Diamonds rule merchants, manufacturers, "big business", world traders/investors. The ruling planetary energy is JUPITER. (Another symbol for Pentacles is COINS).

SPADES/SWORDS/WISDOM (LABOR)

The Wisdom of the Ages is locked beneath the snows of Winter, a period of apparent rest, stillness, hardness and cold. Underneath the Heart of Nature lies the seed containing the Fire of Life, the spark awaiting to blossom forth, guided by her Intelligence, and blessed with her Abundance, a renewal is in the making. Spades are the least understood suit and actually symbolize the Initiate (and often the Adept). Spades know that we die to free the soul and spirit for rebirth. It takes Labor to break ground with the Sword of Truth. As VOCATION, Spades rules the world of labor, medicine, undertakers, healing, confinement, teachers and masters of the Inner Mysteries and all Ancient Orders.
